An east wall and roof at 715 N Highland in Chanute collapsed around 1 25 p m spilling grain onto a truck and drive. The former W J Small ice plant now owned by Joe Sutcliffe and leased to Bill Brazil held about 48000 bushels of corn for government storage. Firemen said the structure simply collapsed with no injuries.

Bus Train Crash Leaves Child Dead In Staten Island
A New York AP report says a grand jury was ordered to investigate a commuter train school bus crash on a Staten Island crossing. A 7 year old girl, Caroline Tarr, died and 44 pupils were injured. The bus carried 51 children aged 5 to 12. The crossing was condemned. The driver Edward Hallowell recalled sun glare and noise from the children.
