Mother cat adopts kittens and cottontails as family

A Savonburg mother cat adopted three newborn kittens and three cottontail babies joining them in a shared home. Mrs. Rice observed the brood eating together and described the cat carrying the young back to the old homestead, where all fed peacefully.

Anderson appoints new faces to Forest Fish and Game Board

Gov John Anderson named Harlan Boxberger Russell and Frank Lombard Enterprise to the five member Forest Fish and Game Commission. Boxberger and Lombard bring farming and business leadership to the panel with terms expiring March 31 1964.

Pageant casting begins for SeKan- O-Rama centennial

Director Al Srnka arrives to lead casting aided by John B. Rogers Producing Co. Two professional assistants join the effort as casting committee meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial building. Srnka from Kirksville Missouri holds a BS in education and is completing a master's at Northeastern Missouri State Teachers College. He has eight Rogers seasons directing centennial shows nationwide. Fellow Rogers representative John S. Mickey serves as business manager for the production.

Injuries Fatal in Arkansas City Cattleman Crash

Norman Hall 72 of South Haven Kansas died in an Arkansas City hospital from injuries after his pickup struck a bridge abutment Sunday. He was a retired cattleman and died Monday.

Centennial events set including coin distribution

SeKan-O-Rama marks its centennial with a coin issue for merchants to use as change worth 50 cents and redeemable at face value. Other activities include Dress Up Day, a promenade, a kangaroo court at 3 p.m., pageant casting committee meeting, and a motor caravan to neighboring towns with a 1 p.m. departure.

The American State Bank of Oswego won a directed verdict in a farm machinery mortgage dispute against William F. and Dora Holding. The trial issued instructions to the jury and Colleen Ikenberry of Chanute led as foreman. The jury was dismissed until next Monday for a slander case hearing.

Bomb scare at Leavenworth home turns out a hoax

Police reported eight speeding arrests on the West Cherry route of highway K39 between 7 and 8 a.m. today. The department tested its electronic timer, first used in weeks after a repair, for the operation.

Gun Battle Fatal To Nebraska Man

Nebraska farmer Theodore Heule, 32, died after a 45 minute gun battle with officers in Kansas following the killing of Sheriff David Johnson and wounding Deputy Aaron Hadfield at a Fullerton farm. Heule, a former mental patient at Omaha Veterans Hospital, had fled 190 miles and engaged officers in multiple exchanges near Ellsworth and along Kansas 18 and 14 before a final volley ended the chase. Hubert Heule, his father, had filed an insanity warrant.
