Chanute to issue wooden nickels for centennial promotion
The SeKan O Rama centennial committee will issue wooden nickels from tomorrow through June 14 to promote Chanute Kansas merchants. The coins will be accepted as payment in participating stores or redeemed at First National Bank or Bank of Commerce. The 1861 1961 Neosho County Sedan O Rama nickel notes the event with plans for later issues.

Flood waters recede as Chanute cleanup begins
Floodwaters receded along the Neosho River as Chanute residents returned home and businesses reopened. Death sentence for Oklahoma man in family killings
Oklahoma City a district court jury convicted Richard Henry Dare and sentenced him to death in the electric chair for the August 5 murder of his father in law Ted Harry Albert and connected killings. Dare testified of temporary insanity after a quarrel with his wife Patricia at the Albert home. The jury acted after less than five hours of deliberation.
