AUBURN Indiana report of a big truck carrying steel shavings leaking on US 6 near Butler causing tire blowouts for about 20 cars. The truck continued to Kendallville as authorities sought a magnet to clean the roadway.
Visitors flocked to the Murray Hill auditorium for the annual arts and crafts fair at the city schools. The event runs through Sunday with a style show by Senior High School home economics girls at 8 p.m. tonight. Local art instructors and spouses were hosted at the Blunk home last night.
Dr. C Sutherland of Neodesha is elected president of the Kansas Chiropractors Association. Dr. John Able of Leavenworth becomes vice president and Dr. Harold Coe of McPherson is re-elected secretary-treasurer.
President Eisenhower and Britain's Field Marshal Montgomery arrived at the President's farm for a long weekend. They plan to rehash the strategy of the historic Battle of Gettysburg.
Baltimore resident Fountain Hughes died at 109 and celebrated without a birthday cake. His friend Thomas J. Waxter, head of the State Department of Public Welfare, usually brings the cake but was in Europe. Hughes, born a slave in Charlottesville, Virginia, said his secret is staying quiet and going to bed at seven.

Senator Styles Bridges proposes trimming at least 3.3 billion from the 72 billion dollar budget to enable a modest tax cut next Jan. 1. He cites spending saturation and targets 500 million from soil bank and CCC, 575 million from public works, 750 million from military items, 1.25 billion from foreign aid, plus 300 million more in miscellaneous cuts.

In Kas. P A, a 14 year old boy Alfred Lee King confessed to fatally injuring 86 year old Mrs. Anna Shields after an incident in Harper. The student was taken from his eighth grade class and admissions were obtained after evidence was shown. Handwritten notes and items found with the victim connect him to the crime. He will be prosecuted as a delinquent and a hearing is set for May 24 on charges of first degree murder, attempted reported incident and juvenile delinquency.
Officers to direct the school year were named in a two ticket election at the Senior High yesterday. Craig Berry won president and David Gough was elected vice president with Evelyn Dormois as secretary Nancy Harris as treasurer. Gough is a sophomore and other officers are members of the junior class.
