Daylight saving time stirred a rare scene in Fredonia as two deer fled the courthouse lawn chased by dogs and crashed into a storefront window. Ila Faye Dent, 21, jailed after a 300 mile pursuit across Southeast Texas ended when her ex husband Robert S. Dent, 22, was shot during an ambush at a Wheelock farm house north of Bryan. Patrolman J Kenneth Crone, 27, was held hostage five hours. Dent had prior vending machine theft convictions.

Maj. Gen. Richard F. Schaefer met with President Nguyen Van Thieu and U S Ambassador Elsworth Bunker in Saigon to discuss troop withdrawals. Thieu linked any pullout to the Vietnamese buildup of forces as Schaefer, a deputy to Gen. Creighton Abrams, outlined contingency plans.
