A 250 pound explosives charge in a parked car exploded beside the U S Embassy in Saigon at 10 55 am killing 17 and wounding 151. Two Americans including a secretary and a U S Army officer died. The blast shattered the five story building, sent flames high, and drew calls for retaliation against North Vietnam.
The House Committee on Un-American Activities voted unanimously to investigate Ku Klux Klan activities. Chairman Edwin E. Willis said preliminary findings show shocking crimes by secret Klan squads. the panel will also probe Black Muslims American Nazi party and Minute Men.
AP reports at Stockon northeast of Kansas City a $2 million F102 interceptor ran out of fuel after Maj. Donald Felty bailed out from 12 000 feet during a routine training flight. The unmanned jet wandered Western Missouri for 75 minutes, with radar pilots guiding it until it finally crashed in open country near Sedalia and Kansas City.
A pilotless F102 crashed into a remote hillside northwest of Stockton on Monday. A crushed little red fox lay beneath the wreckage, the sole casualty noted in the incident.
A Chamber of Commerce membership drive will be conducted tomorrow by the Ambassadors, chamber membership committee. Committee members meet in the chamber offices at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and doughnuts, with kickoff at 9 o'clock. Jim Morris is committee chairman. Also on the chamber schedule this week was a retail committee meeting at 3 p.m. today in the chamber offices.
Washington AP reports consumer costs did not rise in February the first pause in six months. About 13 million factory workers received record high take home pay as prices for women’s wear poultry potatoes and services rose while autos gas phones and eggs fell. The CPI stood at 108.9 with typical $10 basket costing 89 cents more than base period. Weekly take home pay averaged 95.65 dollars for workers with three dependents and 88 for single workers up 29 cents from January due to a longer work week.
Civil rights leaders met Gov. George Wallace in Montgomery and expressed hopeful that he will help ease Alabama's racial strife. Rev. Joseph E. Lowery said the group will await Wallace's response after a cordial, hour plus discussion. They handed a petition seeking biracial communications, poll tax removal, and Negro appointments to state jobs including the patrol.
Scott Powelson of Garnett Kansas is charged with two counts of felonious assault in the beating of 38 year old farm hand John Webb Webb, a former Osawatomie State Hospital patient, is hospitalized at KU Medical Center. Bobby Dale Cook of Princeton is also charged with assaulting Webb on December 19 1964 while both worked for Powelson.
Statewide notes a springlike trend with warmer weather through Wednesday. Tonight's lows mid 30s, Wednesday highs near 60. Topeka reports fog and haze clearing. today highs ranged from the 40s in the northeast to the 50s in the west. Monday highs from 39 at Concordia to 50 at Pittsburg, with early lows from 19 at Dodge City and Hill City to 36 at Pittsburg.
Two district court jury trials are docketed next week one Thursday and one Friday The Thursday case is State versus John Byers Finley Erie for resisting and assaulting officers at a roadblock in St Paul during the last holiday season The Friday case is an appeal from Chanute police court by Ralph P Lane Wichita on a driving while intoxicated conviction He was arrested July 4 convicted November 5 and free on a $200 appeal bond awaiting district court disposition
TOPEKA AP The House gave preliminary approval to a bill to require the Highway Commission to keep existing routes through towns with 15 000 or fewer population if the municipality opts to keep them. The measure would bar bypass or relocation projects without local consent and limits apply to towns 25 000 or under. The bill, introduced by Rep John Conard, faced amendments and was set for a final vote Wednesday.
Topeka bulletin says Kansas Senate approved a bill regulating liquor at private clubs by a 22 to 18 vote after a day of bitter debate. The measure now proceeds to the House for consideration.

Kansas traffic death log shows 1 fatality in 24 hours to 9 am Tuesday with 32 for March and 123 for 1965, compared to 140 for the comparable 1964 period. Delayed fatality report from March 12 is included.
Lawrence Davis of Thayer was arrested yesterday by the highway patrol on a DWI charge and jailed in the city lockup. He remained in custody pending a hearing or bond.

Buford Fisher said the board sits with the school board advisory only, with no vote, and will meet quarterly starting July 5 1965, until a potential community college plan replaces the current structure.

The Kansas House approved a bill 96 to 6 to legalize ball point pen use for marking ballots, replacing the current restriction to black lead pencils. A separate measure to blanket bond state officers passed 100 to 1, aiming to reduce about 125 bonds to perhaps three, saving thousands annually.
