ERIE G C Freeby general manager of the Neosho Valley Cooperative Creamery was seriously injured in a car accident south of Kansas City at about 7 am. He suffered a broken left arm a dislocated shoulder and cuts and bruises. Oren Troup sales manager for the plant at Pittsburg was uninjured except for a slight forehead cut. The two were en route to catch a plane to Chicago when their car overturned after hitting a water puddle about 20 miles from Kansas City. Freeby was taken to Kansas Medical Center.

U S living costs edged down by one tenth of a percent in February while all nonfood items rose. The Labor Department index reached 123.7 percent of the 1947 49 base, the highest February reading on record though one percent above last year. Jimmie William Huffman 28, a convicted murderer, was captured in Eureka after escaping from a Missouri prison farm where he was serving a life term. He fled Monday evening, stole a 1948 car from Jefferson City, and offered no resistance when stopped for lacking license plates.
