Air Compressor Stolen From Farm Near Chanute

Fires threaten again as winds ramp up in Los Angeles area
Fire crews rush to seal boundaries of three major brush fires in the Los Angeles region as forecasts show gusts up to 25 mph. Prairie Brush Fire Doused Near Erie VFW Clubrooms
A brush and prairie fire endangered the Erie Veterans of Foreign Wars clubhouse five miles northwest of Erie. About 1 p.m. the blaze spread across several acres, burning grass to 20 feet from the frame building. Firefighters and volunteers used backfires, wet sacks, shovels, tractors, and water from five farmers to control the flames by 2:30 p.m.

Cedar Creek Watershed Tour Planned for April 8
Final plans for a Cedar Creek drainage area tour by the Governor's watershed review committee were made at a Thornburg Hall meeting. About 30 participants will attend including the review committee watershed board members SCS personnel and district supervisors. A public meeting at 8 PM at Altoona High School will follow with aims to let the committee ask questions and discuss the watershed. A KOAM TV program on March 27 will present information on the pending field review.
