Senate Reforms Defeated in Tax Minimum Clause Fight
In a late night session the Senate rejected the reformers led by Senator Kennedy on a key minimum tax amendment. Mondale called the vote the last chance to raise revenue to offset the tax cut while the bill extends current cuts but risks exceeding the budget ceiling without more reforms. The measure would have doubled the minimum tax impact beyond the companion scaled version now approved.
