The Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission will coordinate rural public transportation across nine counties and four additions. Six specialists will run the two year program funded by a $500000 grant while buses and drivers are provided as needed.

Kansans for the Improvement of Nursing Homes spokesmen told legislators that disturbing conditions persist in some Kansas nursing homes and state standards need stronger enforcement. Dr Kay Camin files for 5th District congressional seat

Dr Kay Camin a Wichita State University staff member since 1965 filed as a Democratic candidate for Congress from the 5th District. Her background includes directing a reclamation project for 4000 acres of strip mined land in southeast Kansas and she cites economic energy and environmental issues and criticizes incumbent Joe Skubitz for not supporting federal reclamation standards. Camin highlights the district as a coal mining area and urges funds to undo damage from years before reclamation laws. She has taught economics at Wichita State and has broad work on environmental matters and citizen participation programs.

A Kansas official says the Supreme Court decision striking federal minimum wage and overtime coverage for states will force careful weighing of rolling back or keeping overtime and wage provisions.
