U N backs Argentina protest over Eichmann transfer

The Security Council endorsed Argentina’s claim that Eichmann’s secret transfer from Buenos Aires to Israel violated Argentine sovereignty. Israel will keep Eichmann for trial, with Ben Gurion stating he will be judged in Israel. The 8-0 vote included abstentions by Poland and the Soviet Union, and Argentina did not vote.

Struck by Dumbbell Detroit Man Killed

Alvin Rodecker, 60, a Detroit businessman and head of Aaron Deroy Management, died after a five pound dumbbell fell eight stories from the apartment of actress Arlene Francis and producer Martin Gabel. The fall occurred as two apartment workers were adjusting a screen. Roosevelt Hospital treated him after the accident in Manhattan.

Three Die in Salina Area Crash Killing Solomon Family

A rural intersection east of Salina, Kansas, saw a car truck collision that killed Charles Conn, 50, and two of his children Donna 15 and Joyce Ann 4. Four Conn children were hospitalized in Salina with serious or critical injuries. Lowell Wildman 31 of Abilene, the truck driver, was injured but not seriously.

Dairy Princess Crowning Tonight in Neosho County

Neosho County will crown its Dairy Princess tonight after a 6 30 dinner at the Tioga Hotel honoring 11 entrants. Sandra Warner, current state Dairy Princess, will present the coronation, with the county winner advancing to a Coffeyville district contest.

Wage deal seals pay rise for enginemen nationwide

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen reached a 16 month wage agreement with U S railroads giving members a 4 percent hourly rise totaling about 10.108 cents. The pact runs to November 1 1961 and includes a 17 cent cost of living adjustment retroactive to May 1957. The Switchmen's Union remains the lone major operating union in dispute seeking 12 percent while 11 non operating unions still unsettled.

Rocket Takes Ultraviolet Sky Reading From Va Launch

A seven photometer Aerobee-Hi rocket was launched at 2:25 a.m. from Wallops Island Virginia by NASA Goddard to study star brightness in ultraviolet light. It reached 131 miles above the Atlantic and transmitted data by telemetry before landing in the sea.

Sharp Increase In Polio Cases

A sharp rise in polio cases was reported by the Public Health Service. For the week ended June 18, 37 cases were recorded, 30 paralytic, with 19 cases (16 paralytic) for the week ended June 11. The 30 paralytic cases are below 61 in 1959 but above 1958.

Carolyn Wing Crowned Wilson County Dairy Princess

Carolyn Wing daughter of Mr and Mrs Phillip Wing of High Prairie was crowned Wilson County Dairy Princess. Diane Turner was named alternate. Wing will compete in a district contest at Coffeyville next Thursday representing the county with sponsor Wilson County Farm Bureau. Warner Kansas Dairy Princess presented the crown at the ceremony in Fredonia after a dinner at Wayne's cafe.

Kansas City police trap a robbery suspect as he tries to flee on a moving freight train. Detective William Grable says the bandit surrendered a pistol and money bag, giving the name Robert Covington, 43, of St. Louis, and admitting he robbed the Safeway at 1118 North 7th Street.

West withdraws from state race for superintendent

L A West of El Dorado has withdrawn as a candidate for state superintendent of public instruction. Democrats may name another candidate to replace him on the November ballot. Throckmorton remains unopposed for the Republican nomination. West cites a misunderstanding in filing his name without authorization. West also serves as Butler County superintendent of schools.

Tractor Falls in Pit Drowns Driver in Water Pit

Allen G Holloway 35 a Finney County employee drowned when his tractor toppled into a water filled sand pit near Garden City. Sheriff Earl Robinson said tracks showed the vehicle ran close to the edge and the side caved in. Holloway leaves a wife and two children.

Cost of Living Rises Slightly for May Third Month in Row
