Rail Wage Dispute Ends with 40 Percent Pay Increase
The 14 month wage dispute between U S railroads and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen ends in a 40 percent pay rise over 16 months. BRT members receive 10.208 cents an hour raise, half effective July 1 1960 and half March 1 1961, with base wages from 2.25 to 2.84 an hour. The deal adds 17 cents an hour for cost of living since May 1957, cancels the COLA clause, and extends the contract to November 1 1961.
