Flooding from the Arkansas River threatens Larned Kansas as two leaks in a dike were patched to protect about 1,500 residents and most of the business district. Evacuations surpassed 1,000 with towns including Great Bend and Dodge City bracing as widespread rainfall raised crests and damaged infrastructure.
An Arcadia California man S R Cullop visited the local bus station to report he failed to receive his return tickets from Los Angeles for a trip with his wife to Chanute. Oklahoma City dispatchers issued duplicate tickets and Cullop claimed they would visit a Tom Gorman, but no such person could be found.
