Unusual Fatal Crash Claims Young Chanute Girl
A 9 year old Chanute girl Terry Lynn Rankin died after a collision in front of her home. Police report the Rankin car was struck head on by a northbound Pontiac driven by Mrs Oda Fields causing the girl to be thrown into the street. She died at Neosho Memorial Hospital about two and a half hours later. Funeral services are planned with burial at Memorial Park.

Pleads Guilty To Larceny In Chanute Case
Walter Lee Akridge, 17, of Chanute pleaded guilty in police court to a misdemeanor petty larceny charge. Sentencing deferred until July 9. He and another Chanute boy were accused of stealing copper wire and lead from the city power plant on 3rd and Santa Fe. materials were recovered in the river bottom east of town. The other boy, 16, did not appear and will be sought after leaving town.
