Mrs. Marie Peterson, furniture shop manager, makes friendship hooked rugs. She used garments donated by 175 Chanute residents to craft an eight by seven foot rug for Dr. A. M. Garton, who began practice in 1912. The gift inspired more donations and another rug may follow.
The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with possible scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight and Friday. Severe storms may occur in western and northern sections with generally 70s tonight and highs in the 85 to 90s range tomorrow. Reports of heavy showers last night appeared in several counties, with Burr Oak and Salina among those recording over 1 inch.

In Wichita a 14 year old, Bobby Moore, was prescribed a summer on an Illinois uncle’s farm after he shot his twin Billy with a .32 revolver on June 7. Judge Ridel ordered removal of guns from the home and made Bobby a ward of the court awaiting court approval to return to Wichita.
Rich ard T. Fadely announced Neo sho County received 109 382 as its share of the residue sales tax fund with a 50 50 apportionment by population and tangible value. Kansas totals reach 12 2 million with Allen 101 796 Wilson 86 105 and Woodson 41 371.
President Eisenhower and Vice President Nixon presided over a two hour Cabinet session in Washington. It was the first gathering since the President's illness in June with no details released on topics discussed.

A. S. Graham an attorney was charged with assault and battery in Pittsburg Kansas city court after Thad Sandstrom, manager of radio station KSEK, said Graham attacked him in the station office following a news report on recall petitions. Sandstrom said Graham demanded a copy of the story and dragged him, with Mrs. Sandstrom pulling Graham away by the hair. Graham pleaded innocent and was released on a $35 bond to stand trial July 17.
Ira van Buskirk and Sons Construction Co submitted the apparent low bid of 96208 for the Atchison County Lake northwest of Atchison, close to the engineers estimate of 96500. Carruthers Construction Co bid 248500 for a dam on the Arkansas River southwest of Great Bend with an estimated 269000. Contracts require State Forestry Fish and Game Commission action.
TOPEKA Kansas Maj Gen Joe Nickell state selective service director announced a national call for 13000 men for August. Kansas is asked to furnish 179 men this month part of the nationwide quota while 152 were requested for July and 136 for June.
Topeka Kansas traffic fatalities listed by the State Accident Records Section show 275 in the last 24 hours and year to date 1956, compared with 254 for the same period in 1955.

Washington reported the House prepared to vote next week on a four year federal school construction program worth 1.6 billion dollars. The House Rules Committee cleared the bill after months blocked over potential segregation effects. A car driven by Thomas E. England dozed as it struck a street pole, knocking the electric line and transformer to the ground in the 500 block of South Santa Fe at about 4 15 a m. Elmber W. Boyd of Lawrence fell into Fall River in Rocky Mountain National Park after losing footing while crossing with his brother Tom. He was knocked unconscious and cut, then rescued from a pool by Bruce Rorabacher and Benson Martin. Boyd, a Kansas chemical engineering senior, was visiting with his wife and brother.
