Atchison Kansas motion picture theater operator Earl Van Hyning 72 died after a long illness. He started in Coffeyville in 1912 and owned theaters in Coffeyville Independence Ottawa Parsons Iola and Atchison before moving to Atchison in 1953 to run the Orpheum with son in law Harry A. Hixon. Survivors include his widow a daughter four sisters and a brother. Funeral services set for Stanton chapel Atchison with burial in Mt Calvary Ottawa.

New York reports a Venezuelan four engine airliner burst into flames and plunged into the Atlantic near Asbury Park New Jersey killing 74 people in what was called the world's worst disaster in regular airline service. Coast Guard pilots described a ball of flame and a rapid 60 degree dive hitting the water at 1 32 a m. Debris and oil slicks were sighted as rescuers searched for survivors. The plane had departed Idlewild Airport bound for Caracas and reported engine trouble before dumping fuel and collapsing into the sea.

Pastor Dies Known for Deaf and Blind Work
Ernest Christian Sibberson 70 a nationally known pastor for the deaf and blind died after a long illness. He led First Church of the Deaf and toured Kansas cities conducting services for the deaf and blind. A memorial service was set for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was well known in Chanute as part of his circuit and had previously served here.
