Chain Reaction In Car Mishap East of Chanute
Three motor cars were damaged when a hay loaded trailer swung free after a tow chain failed on K39 Highway east of Chanute last night. No injuries were reported. Assistant Police Chief Lige Matlock and Patrolman John Leroy investigated. Floyd E. Shultz drove the tractor with a hay baler and the trailer carried 50 bales of alfalfa.

Smoky Hill Floods After Six Inch Rain
The Smoky Hill River south of Oakley in extreme western Kansas rose after a reported six inch rainfall. The Kansas City Weather Bureau noted the area 25 miles south of Oakley saw the river widen to over a quarter mile and still rising. No direct Oakley reports yet and the land is pasture with no serious damage expected.
