A severe storm front swept across Oklahoma City with winds up to 107 mph, causing widespread damage and power and communications outages. Tornadoes were reported near Shattuck and Arnett, a grain elevator collapsed in Follett, Texas, and floods closed highways. Wheat Referendum Voting Set for June 25 in Erie Area
Farmers in Erie Neosho County will cast ballots June 25 in 12 polling places from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on whether to implement wheat marketing quotas. If approved, price supports for the 1956 crop would be 75 to 90 percent of parity. if rejected, supports drop to 50 percent. At least two thirds must back quotas to continue. Polling sites include Tioga Memorial Building Chanute and Erie area schools and buildings in multiple townships.

Driver Guilty of Operating While Intoxicated in Police Court
McKinley Jones of Parsons was found guilty in police court yesterday afternoon of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. He faces 30 days in the county jail at Erie and was transported there by Sheriff Lee Montgomery and Undersheriff John Phelps.

Wheat Harvest Progress in Chanute Area Under Sunny Skies
The wheat harvest, slowed by wet weather, started rolling in the Chanute area as local elevators reported yesterday and today. Loaded trucks faced line delays at one market while test weight neared 60 and moisture remained high but improving. Yields ranged from 20 to 42 bushels per acre with 25 to 40 as average. some barley still being harvested and sold.

Severe storms strike western Kansas causing damage
Severe storms hit western and central Kansas last night and this morning. The Scott City area suffered a hailstorm wiping out crops along a five mile swath and damaging buildings and autos. Local flooding occurred near Cimarron and Scott City and north of Hays washing out roads and bridges. The Saline River rose near Hays and trains faced delays due to high water. Rain gauges reported 2.60 inches at Scott City though hail may have blocked the gauge. Forecaster Tom Arnolds warned of continued storms with lows near 60 and highs around 80.

Revolt Flare In Argentina After Vatican Ousts Peron
In Buenos Aires a revolt against President Juan D. Peron broke out soon after his excommunication by the Vatican. Government House was bombed by naval planes, fighters and armored units surrounded the building as clashes erupted in central Buenos Aires.
