Eight-Year-Old Burned, Wichita Fire Injures Family

Charles Ostrander of rural Humboldt died early today from a gunshot wound. Dr. Gerald Pees of Lola said he was notified by a Humboldt doctor around 8 a.m. that the wound was safety related. The sheriff’s office in Lola had been notified but reported no investigation. Ostrander had recent emotional disturbance after family difficulties. He once lived in Chanute and the body was taken to Johnson Funeral Home in Humboldt with arrangements pending.

The wife of a former Fort Scott minister, Mrs. William L. Gates, 57, of Littleton Colorado, died when her car overturned on U S 69 about nine miles north of Pleasanton Kansas. A 16 year old son Donald sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized at Fort Scott. Rev. William Gates, former pastor of the Church of God Holiness in Fort Scott, was at a church convention in Kansas City.
