Safari Museum Opens Here With 700 Attendees
About 700 persons attended the dedication of the Safari Museum in Newton. The event included a 300 person audience for the dedicatory ceremony, with 250 visitors from out of town and a brisk souvenir trade. Mrs Belle Leighty and Mrs Freda Cripps cut the ribbons, mayor Dave Evans presided, and John Gorton thanked contributors. The Johnsons, famed African explorers, are buried in Chanute. The building at 16 S Grant was gifted by Santa Fe and now houses a nonprofit museum run by the Chamber of Commerce.

One hundred reservations have been received for the 30th reunion of Chanute High School’s 1931 graduating class. The event, open to the public, begins 7:30 Saturday at the Tioga Hotel with a dinner planned for noon Sunday. Bill Gough of Independence will serve as master of ceremonies.

State Traffic Fatal to Four
Four persons were killed in traffic accidents in Kansas over the weekend. Wayne O'Trimble, 16, of Williams town, Kan., died Sunday east of Perry on U S 24 after his car sideswiped a semi and hit a bridge. Miss Wanita Powell, 16, of Kansas City Kan., died early Saturday when a car she rode in was struck while being chased by a patrolman. The Green car’s driver Richard H Green, 22, of Overland Park, Kan., was slightly injured. Richard Lavin, 17, of Kansas City Kan., was critically injured. Mrs Mark Atherly, 53, of Bull Shoals Ark., was killed Saturday when a car hit a culvert on U S 54 east of Iola. The Atherlys daughter Mary Lou Graham, 22, of Fayetteville Ark., was injured. Gilbert Charles Clari III, 19, of Wichita, was killed Saturday in a one car crash on K 57 west of Girard. Virgil L. Hodge, 23, of Kansas City Kan., was critically injured.

Four Die When Boat Capsizes Near Niagara Falls
Four people are killed after a small motorboat capsized in the rapids near Niagara Falls and went over the edge. Victims include George Stewart a Ridgeway druggist, his wife Jean, and Stanley Tessman with his wife Gladys of Buffalo. A man aboard was pulled into a power plant intake. Crowds watched as the boat drifted through a dam gate two miles upstream. Only one person is known to have survived a plunge over the falls in history.

Weekend Crashes Cause Minor Vehicle Damage
Police reported a minor traffic collision at 1501 S Santa Fe involving a 1955 Buick owned by Gerald Robertson of Buffalo and a 1953 Chevrolet driven by J. W. Gray of Western Totines.
