Chanute Country Club Born From Foresight and Local Labor
The Chanute Country Club emerged after industrial shifts and local initiative. Beginning with the Chanute Cement Co. in 1912, assets passed through receivers and refinancings before 110 acres were bought by 200 sportsmen at $100 per acre. The club opened officially on June 27, 1921, with golf debut on May 2, 1920 and an April 14, 1921 meeting raising $5,000 for furniture.
