Centennial Parades Set for Monday and Wednesday
Two centennial parades are planned here next week. Monday’s parade starts at City Park at 4 p.m. marching west on Main to Royster Junior High, with Navy and Santa Fe entries and bands from Chanute and Yates Center. Rex King will present a 30 minute KOAM show at City Park after the parade.

Extension of Time in Queen Contest for Centennial Pageant
The Miss Centennial queen contest extends 48 hours with final votes due 6 p.m. Friday instead of 8 p.m. Wednesday. Winners and eight runners up will be crowned at a queen’s ball 9 to 12 Saturday at the National Guard armory. An introduction of candidates occurs tonight at Centennial headquarters 118 E Main during a street platform program and promenade ending at the headquarters.

Cars Damaged In Collisions In City
Two accidents damaged vehicles in the city. Jesse Reed 87 and William Pierce 42 collided at Beech and Western as Reed tried to pass and Pierce turned right. Reed’s 1957 Ford had $100 left side damage. Pierce’s 1950 Ford had minor front right damage. Wesley Brinkmeyer backed into Earnest King’s car at Main and Grant, damaging a door. Mrs. Gus Adelgren reported her 1956 Ford scraped by an unknown car Sunday night.

Severe storms bring hail and damaging winds to Kansas
Weather today shows cloudiness and possible thundershowers with mild cooling. In Topeka, reports of cloudbursts and damaging winds accompany hail up to golf-ball size in Wallace County and 100 mph gusts near Webster Dam. Tractor Accident Fatal to Farmer in Great Bend Area
Arthur Dyer a 42 year old farmer of Olmitz Kas was killed when his tractor toppled as he pulled a hay baler onto Olmitz Road 22 miles north of Kansas 96 He was pinned between the tractor and baler and died late Monday He is survived by his wife and six children.

Six Children Perish In Missouri Fire
In Portageville Missouri six children died in a house fire Monday night. One child was critically burned and Michael Forest nine was rushed to hospital with burns over sixty percent of his body. The mother Jesse Mae Forest was treated for shock as neighbors aided rescue before flames cut off access. The victims ranged from one to ten years old and the Forests are Black.

Police investigated an apparent break-in at the Senior Trade School last night. No items were reported missing after officers found a glass pane broken from a door and the door unlocked by reaching through the opening. Director Jim Brethbreath notified authorities.

Topekan Is Killed In Traffic Crash
A high speed crash three miles northwest of Topeka at a highway interchange left Thomas Ryan of Topeka dead. The car tore through five guard rail posts and the bridge railing before the driver was tossed about 30 feet to the street below. Ryan was believed to be in his early twenties.

Boy Drowns Near Great Bend While Fishing
Jim Barnes twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Bill Barnes of Mountain View Oklahoma drowned Monday while fishing in Walnut Creek near Great Bend with his father. He slipped from a muddy bank while retrieving his hook snagged on a limb and the body was recovered by firemen nine hours later.
