Chanute Schools Grow From 1868 Town Founding
The Chanute school story traces from 1868 when pioneer children first attended a log school near Village Creek, through rapid expansion after railroad and oil growth. It covers bond elections for new high and ward schools, the 1902 science labs and music classes, the 1904 ward additions, the 1920s junior college dreams, and the 1936 senior high and junior college bonds with later expansions including Alcott Elementary in 1939 and ongoing growth.
