Issues Posed In Wheat Vote
Erie farmers face two issues in the June 20 wheat referendum per E. L. McCan chair of Neosho County ASC. First, whether marketing quotas with penalties on excess wheat over 15 acres of harvest will be in effect. Second, the level of price support for the 1958 crop. A two thirds vote is needed to approve quotas. if approved, penalties apply in all commercial wheat states harvesting over 15 acres. Quotas set minimum price support at 1.78 per bushel for compliant farmers. if quotas fail, allotments remain and price support is 0.50 parity for compliant farmers. Commercial states require over 25,000 acres of wheat. Kansas is included.
