Gail Ruth Dutton the 23 month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Dutton rural Erie escaped injury when a 1955 Pontiac left running with her in the seat sped across a field ploughing a dry pond then crashing into a hedge fence and breaking three trees. The child apparently slipped off the seat brushing the car into gear and fell on the gas pedal before the Duttons could stop it.

Pittsburg Man Drowns In Neosho River
Erie reports the body of Erda W. Croulter a 39 year old Pittsburg man was recovered at 10 45 a m after drowning while setting a trotline on the Neosho River just north of the Labette county line during a fishing trip. He left a wife and five children.

Truck Crashes on US 169 South of Chanute
A semi trailer loaded with sugar ran off the east side of US 169 four and a half miles south of Chanute at about 2 30 a.m. The vehicle jackknifed, snapped a utility pole and transformer, and dropped four power lines, causing about 2500 in damage to lines and 2000 to the truck. Keith E. Smith of Holdrege Neb told troopers he fell asleep and was treated for head cuts. He faced reckless driving charges and was held at the city jail pending a hearing.
