A barn fire at Dr. J. N. Sherman farm four miles southeast of town destroyed the barn and its contents valued at 45 000 to 50 000. Contents owned by Dean Kepley included tractors, hay baler, field equipment, oats and alfalfa. Insurance covered most losses. Chanute fire department arrived at 1 24 p.m. but could only prevent spread.

Pleas for New Trials Denied for Two Convicts
U S District Judge Waldo Rogers in Albuquerque denied the pleas of Robert Sanders and Joseph Gullahorn for new trials. The men, convicted in the Sandia Base Bank burglary of October 1955, were sentenced to 20 years and ordered returned to Leavenworth prison. Infant Killed Near Ottawa in One-Car Accident

Eight bridges over ten feet built, 96 culverts under ten feet, and 210 entrance culverts added.
