The county hosts 172 bridges over 20 feet with eight spanning the Neosho River. Many date from the 1870s and are deteriorated. New creek bridges cost 50 000 to 100 000 dollars each, river bridges about 250 000 dollars, funded only via bond issues. The author calls for closing all county bridges until certified safe.
