Two young men admitted they traveled from Woburn Massachusetts to New York City starting Christmas Eve and ending Friday with five people dead and one wounded. Emanuel Samperi aged 27 and Henry P du Sablon aged 20 were arrested at the Belvedere Hotel on West 48th Street and booked on homicide charges.
U N forces and Ethiopian Indian troops seized Elisabethville after days of clashes. Tshombe fled the palace as U N troops gained control of key sites including the post office, railway station, and radio Katanga studios. Casualties reported as light for U N forces, with ongoing bombardment and roadblock removals noted.

He was thrown clear and treated at Wesley Medical Center for a scalp laceration, abrasions, and bruises. his condition was listed as good.
Thousands of merrymakers and motorists cross the nation for the last holiday weekend of 1962 as the National Safety Council warns 420 to 480 traffic fatalities may occur. Through the four day span begun Friday evening, 15 traffic deaths and 3 other holiday accidents were reported by press time with no fire fatalities. Driving too fast for conditions and drinking drivers are linked to a large share of weekend crashes.
