Nine Aboard Missing Boat in Long Island Sound

A 100 foot tugboat the Gwendolyn Steers with nine crew members aboard is presumed lost in rough Long Island Sound near Target Rock and Eaton's Neck Point. One body was found in a lifeboat washed ashore, and no survivors are indicated. The vessel had radioed taking on water before a late Sunday storm produced 15 foot waves. During the start of a four day New Year weekend traffic related deaths rose with 184 highway deaths reported and 285 total fatalities from fires and accidents. Buffalo Post Office Opens in New Location

Buffalo opens its post office in remodeled quarters two doors north of its former site after 34 years in the old location. The move follows former postmasters Mrs Nellie Preston and Mrs Ruth Willoughby and current postmaster George Cox with assistant Lulu Houston. The building is owned by Mr and Mrs Alis Sutterfield.

Missing Black Angus Cow and Calf Reported

ERIE reports a missing Black Angus cow and her newborn calf. Sheriff Jerry Sloan says the stock belongs to Verl Thurman of Mission and was kept in a barn lot in the Galesburg vicinity. The calf was born last Thursday and appeared to be stolen with its mother Friday or Saturday.
