Farmers Kill 2 000 Rabbits in Countywide Roundup

Tyrone Oklahoma residents joined farmers and about 1 000 spectators in a six section rabbit roundup that killed an estimated 2 000 rabbits. Ronald Scott of Garden City Kansas bought 900 rabbits at four cents each for mink feed. Dogs killed six coyotes during the hunt.

Smoking in Bed Fatal to Wichitan

Mrs. Georgia Carroll a 47 year old secretary died in a fire at her Wichita apartment. Firefighters found her body sprawled on the bed after a cigarette set the bed ablaze while she apparently dozed. District Fire Chief C E Holder provided the account.

Final Induction for Two Neosho Men

A call for two men to report on January 18 for final induction into the armed services was received by Neosho County Selective Service headquarters. Induction will take place in Kansas City the following day.

Tucson airman rescued after 24 hours on canyon ledge

Donald Ellison a 28 year old airman from Tucson spent a full day on a two foot ledge in the Catalina Mountains fighting sleep to avoid a fall. A four man rescue team lowered him to safety after help from local newspaper staff.

Santa Claus Delivers Switches to Engineers for Dam Project

In Manhattan two bundles of switches were delivered to the Corps of Engineers tied to the Turtle Creek Dam site. Man Held in Death Of Wichita Trash Hauler

Wichita police arrested 43 year old Guy E Henderson in Santa Rosa California for questioning in the murder of 77 year old Jim Ross, a Wichita rag picker. Ross was found beaten and shot December 19 with over $17000 in cash recovered from trunks in Ross's garage. Henderson once lived across from Ross and has an extensive police record.

Japanese Seamen Rescued by Helicopters Off Japan

American Air Force helicopters plucked 22 Japanese crewmen from raging seas off northeast Japan. A U.S. destroyer rescued three fishermen from a sinking vessel, while six ships were reported missing. The 22 clung to debris from the Handa Maru 1,339 tons. seven others remained missing. Three crew swam ashore.

Emergency Landing After Fire Warning Over Utah Flight

An American Airlines DC7 with 46 aboard made an emergency landing at Bryce Canyon Airport after a fire warning light flashed over southern Utah on the Los Angeles to New York run.
