Farmers Power and the 1972 Electoral Vote
The text argues that farmers in Illinois and Indiana could influence the 1972 election if their bloc votes align, delivering 64 electoral votes. It notes that urban votes could still split, making the farmer bloc pivotal but not guaranteed. It references Earl Butz’s appointment as sharpening the farmer’s political punch, yet warns against assuming a decisive bloc.
