A Chanute woman, Mrs Edna Peterson, will have her name inscribed on a bronze plaque at Gettysburg National Park as part of a memorial for Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 1952 presidential nomination. Peterson long served Kansas Republicans. the item appears in a Miami press release for the 1952 Delegation Memorial Committee.

Search Underway For Kansas Top Young Farmer 1960
The Kansas Junior Chamber of Commerce launched the search for the outstanding young farmer of 1960 for ages 21 to 36. Local chapters will nominate candidates, with state president Wayne Matlock announcing the effort. The banquet to name the winner will be Feb 11 or 12 in Ulysses. Wendell Cheek of Ulysses chairs the committee. The winner earns a plaque and $200 toward a trip to either the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City or the Denver Livestock Show.

Wellington Couple Killed in Missouri
Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs.lom W. Stewart of Wellington will be held at First Presbyterian Church. They died Tuesday in a highway crash near Columbia Missouri. Burial is in Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Stewart was 73 and led a major city department store for years. Mrs. Stewart, 68, was former vice president of the Kansas American Cancer Society chapter.

35 000 Damage Suit By Larry Oliverson
A 35 000 damage suit filed in Johnson County district court names Larry Oliverson a 19 year old Chanute youth through his mother as plaintiff. He alleges injuries from a Dec 4 car wreck on US 69 about 20 miles south of Kansas City. Defendant is Kathleen M Bessenbacher of Independence Missouri. Oliverson was hospitalized nine days at the University of Kansas Medical Center for surgery to remove a ruptured spleen.

Nine Navy airmen are lost after a P2V Neptune crashes during a fleet exercise off Cape Race near Newfoundland. Carlyle Man Arrested on No-Fund Check Charge
Cecil Knoble of Carlyle in Allen County was arrested by Chanute police at his place of employment on a Neosho County warrant charging him with issuing a $300 no-fund check. The warrant was issued on a complaint signed by Truman Shrum of Chanute.
