The Wichita Civil Air Patrol joined the Sedgwick County Red Cross to rush blood to Chanute, saving a woman's life during surgery. Phillip Lytle delivered the rare blood. the patient recovered. A Red Cross blood collection is planned in Chanute at the First Methodist Church.
The Elks lodge has adopted the remaining families named by the Chamber of Commerce for Christmas aid. Of 55 families, the Elks cover 14 while other groups and individuals adopt the remaining 41.
President elect John F. Kennedy said he will urge Congress to act quickly on medical care for the aged and aid for education housing and areas of chronic unemployment. He also seeks early action on raising the $1 minimum wage as aides and leaders pledge cooperative planning for the new administration.

A two car collision on U S 40 Monday near Ellsworth Kansas killed three persons and injured three others. The deceased are Earl Williams 43 Joyce Williams 36 both of Russell and driver Cletis Seamans 20 of Enterprise. Injured are Diane Williams 16 and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Elder of Russell. The crash occurred 72 miles east of Ellsworth.

The body of George Wesley Best, 45, of Wichita, was found beside a rural road four miles south of Andover. Sheriff Ercel Reed said Best was shot in the head while hunting. investigators believe he was crawling through a fence when his shotgun discharged.
East and West German negotiators met in Berlin to renew trade exchanges. The East German regime threatened to halt Allied and German transport to Berlin if a new trade agreement is not reached by New Year’s Eve. Allied officials viewed the threat as bluff to pressure Western concessions.
