Chanute public and parochial schools announce Christmas observances before recess. Public schools end classes Wednesday and reopen January 3, while St Patrick's School stays open through Friday. The 10th annual Christmas Tea at the Junior College starts 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, hosted by YM-YWCA with Janice Richwine and Charlotte Olson serving hot wassail and fruit cake.

Warning Received Of Stolen Drafts
Chanute police received a telegram from the American Express Co offices in Dallas warning against passage of stolen drafts. Three books of 50 drafts each were lost in transit to Rolla Missouri and are being negotiated by a man endorsing them as Willard Hadlock. The drafts are drawn on the First National Bank of St Louis and were used in postage purchases. Draft numbers are QK 12451-500 QK 12501-550 and QK 12551-600.

Arrest Youth After Chase Near Thayer
Billy L. Robertson a 17 year old of Thayer was to appear in justice court on six charges from a 10 mile high speed chase. Sheriff Jerry Sloan said Robertson sped up to 90 mph on a county road and was halted when a highway patrol car stopped him at the US 169 and K47 junction north of Thayer. He faces resisting arrest reckless driving speeding and three counts of running stop signs.

Three Hooded Bandits Loot Mahoning Bank in Boardman
Three hooded men forced teller Robert A. Macaulay to open the night depository at Mahoning National Bank in Boardman. Fire Destroys Farm House South of Earlton
Fire of undetermined origin destroys a two story farm house and its contents two miles south of Earlton on US 169 yesterday afternoon. The home was rented to Mr. and Mrs. E L Price and owned by the Burris estate of Chanute. No one was home. Price was in Oklahoma visiting his hospitalized wife. Thayer fire department arrived too late to save the property. The house was insured though the contents reportedly were not.

Three-State Area Shaken by Blast
A trunk pipeline carrying natural gas from Louisiana exploded near Huntington West Virginia. The rupture occurred about 15 miles from Huntington in the United Fuel Gas Co line. A spokesman said no injuries and no danger, with the fire under control.
