The Suez crisis prompts a 24 hour weekly driving ban in Zurich to curb fuel use. Shops stay open, tourists remain, and streets fall silent as residents tout sacrifice while authorities expect fuel reserves to hold until the Suez situation improves.

Police found a gas heater burning full blast in a Glendale apartment with all windows closed. A family of four died from apparent asphyxia, including Gayle Hinton 23 Frances 18 Ava 18 months and Michael 5 months. Temperature was estimated at 150 degrees, and Gayle Hinton was found near a tipped lamp in the living room.

A spectacular million-dollar blaze swept a Northwest Side department store last night forcing 400 shoppers and employees to flee.
