The new city and county radio link to the State Patrol car isn t working. city and county police can receive but cannot send replies. Officials say the fix will take a couple of days as the system is realigned to allow two way communication among agencies.
About 200 members of the Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association gather at 8 pm in the Tioga Hotel ballroom. Gerald Gordon of Topeka speaks on state legislation impact. Bill Riley of Garfield was sentenced to 90 days in county jail after admitting writing a $10 check without funds. Charges filed November 15. He was taken to Erie but released for one day due to his ill child. he was to be returned to jail.

About 40 state legislators and officials will tour the Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital in Chanute. Led by Robert A. Anderson of Ottawa, the group will arrive around 6 15 p m and hear staff presentations after dinner before touring facilities. Robert N. Allen of Neosho County joins the visit and the group plans to stay overnight.
Police say two women reported their purses stolen yesterday from the office at the rear of Beachie's China & Gift Shop. Ida Beach listed a $1.50 cash loss and Opal Howell reported $60 plus personal papers. An open safe nearby was ignored.
Six bidders filed offers for the 702 North Grant house in a sheriff sale. Sid McDowell of Yates Center bought the property for 11000 dollars. The Allen couple previously owned it before a property settlement.
Topeka report lists Kansas traffic fatalities in the last 24 hours and year totals. The latest period shows four fatalities, with the year 1957 totaling 547 deaths versus 646 in the same period in 1946.

El Dorado police arrested ex convict Gerald Adair after he seized his sister in law and her daughter, taped wrists, and threatened to kill them and himself. He fired at officers before being subdued. Marcie and Mrs Adair were unharmed.
Darlene Masters a 16 year old resident of Route 2 sustained forehead cuts in a two car collision at 3 40 p m yesterday at Main and Forest. Her brother David Harley Masters 16 Route 2 and Jean Douglas 26 of 427 South Malcolm were the other drivers. Douglas allegedly turned left from Main onto South Forest and was struck by the westbound Masters car. No other injuries reported.
Mrs Genevieve Mayfield 61 of Pittsburg Kansas died from injuries suffered in a two car crash on Highway 60 east of Seymour Missouri. Mrs Mary Harris 65 of Springfield Missouri was in serious condition. Both women were hospitalized in Springfield.
A flash fire upstairs on the Northwest Side killed 14 year old Charles Farris his sister Jessica 10 and brother Michael 8 as they slept. Firemen reported suffocation after flames started in the living room at the Farris home.
NATO approved in principle the U S plan to base nuclear missiles in Western Europe to counter Russia. Heads of government will finalize the decision after a ministers session and report. The move comes with a push to negotiate disarmament and seek East West settlement options.
Bindweed control supervisors from nine Southeast Kansas counties met at the Memorial building for their regular monthly session. The group discussed chemical options and land requirements, noting bindweed’s rapid spread once it starts. The 14 supervisors and other interested men met for about four hours and plan to meet January 14 in Girard.

Lyle Baker aged 58 a Missouri Pacific Railroad employee was fatally injured last night in the yards at Nevada Missouri. Authorities reported the incident occurred in the rail yard area during routine work with investigators called to determine exact cause.
About 190 members of the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union end a five week strike at the Co Operative Farm Chemical Assny plant near Lawrence. The wage dispute is settled with a five percent wage increase and improved night differentials. Good Friday will be an additional holiday for workers.
Wright Warren Cochran of Topeka Kansas died when his auto collided with a Missouri Pacific switch engine at a Carthage crossing. The accident occurred today and authorities were notified.

In heavy fog north of Excelsior Springs a three vehicle collision killed three Iowa residents. The dead are Larry Bourne 18 of Union Iowa Harold Northrup 52 of Webster City Iowa and his wife Veda 54. A Prairie Village Kansas couple Mr and Mrs Meyer Jacobson were hospitalized with non dangerous injuries.
