Gene Shipley, 11, born in Chanute and now in Sun Valley California, has won about 30 trophies in quarter midget racing after roughly a year in the sport. His grandparents Mr and Mrs Ralph Drake of 531 N Central report his rising fame after a newspaper feature. Jim Fehr of Tulsa also reports sighting Sputnik 1 on December 14 at 6 10 a m as a bluish green light moving NW to SE for about five minutes.

Driver Arrested In DUI Case With Bond Posted
A $150 bond was posted by William F. Beachnor of St. Paul on charges of driving while intoxicated and illegal transportation. Trial is set for 4 p.m. on December 23. Beachnor and Paul A. Westhoff were arrested at 10:30 p.m. yesterday. Westhoff faces intoxication charges and posted a $15 bond. Beachnor underwent a blood alcohol test at 10:45 p.m. at Neosho Memorial hospital.

He said an electrical hydraulic failure at about 43,000 feet forced the eject. Two Men Die In Train Collision Near Grace Crossing
Two men were killed and two injured when their car hit a Rock Island freight train at a grade crossing about six miles east of Clearwater Kansas. Victims were N. L. Shropshirer 56 and Melton E.
