Jeanne and Joanne Nettleton, duo pianists from Chanute, after a 35 concert Alaska and Western Canada tour reported in a feature. They flew 10 000 miles in various planes and played to mixed audiences including many Indian and Eskimo listeners.

Fire heavily damaged a newly remodeled kitchen at Fred Demps home 721 N Evergreen yesterday afternoon. Other rooms suffered smoke damage as flames penetrated an outside kitchen wall and into the roof. Fire Chief C W Brennan estimated the loss at about 2500 to house and contents, insured. a second run occurred after sparks were seen between roof and rafter.
Air Force researchers at Cambridge Research Center oversee Arctic experiments to measure ice thickness and strength for safe landings. From now to May, TNT charges and projectile drops will test ice behavior as helicopters deliver projectiles and 80 ton tanks flood ice with water in Hopedale Labrador.
A P A bus stopped at a highway crash scene near Longview Washington yesterday. The driver and passengers helped four injured persons aboard the bus. One man was unconscious and was taken to a local hospital. He awoke on the examining table insisting he was not hurt after fainting at the sight of blood. The other three had no serious injuries.
Glenn L. Martin died at 69 leaving a will probated showing gifts totaling 3.635 million dollars. A 100000 dollar bequest goes to Kansas Wesleyan University Salina. The largest leg is 2 million to the University of Maryland board of regents for the Minta Martin Aeronautics Research Foundation. Fifteen other charitable gifts total 1.625 million.

Coroner William H Pope said both died almost instantly when the walls collapsed during foundation work for a heavy paper baler.

A Nebraska man, Albert Rulla, 43, of Douglas, was killed yesterday when his pickup collided with a semi-trailer truck on U.S. 81 about eight miles north of Salina. The collision occurred in Nebraska near Salina as papers found on the victim identified him.
Detroit report details Albert P. Schwen ter, 69, dying of a heart attack after reporting for work at his brother Nicholas’ sheet metal shop. Nicholas, 72, rushed to the shop and collapsed later at home from a heart attack, dying.

Max Blakeley of Wichita a 45 year old electronics supervisor at a Wichita aircraft plant has spent decades handing out penny sized Christmas greetings. Since 1950 he has given 500 pennies annually and last year handed out 2000 of the coins, with more than 150 friends keeping his pennies as mementos.
A two car collision near Aliceville, Kansas, killed four year old David Paul Rolf, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Rolf. He died in Burlington hospital about six hours after the crash. His mother was hospitalized but not believed critically hurt. other occupants escaped serious injury.

In Portland, William Clarence Peddicord and his sister-in-law Joyce Keller were charged with injuring persons and property by explosives in a $50,000 extortion plot tied to the Meier and Frank Co department store bombing eight months earlier. The blast in a men's washroom on April 15 caused debris injuries but no serious harm. Bond set at $75,000 each. authorities say the pair admitted the plot but did not pursue the payoff. Police investigated two non injury motor vehicle mishaps. At First and South Evergreen a collision occurred about 7 15 p m involving Wanda Mae Russell and Norman Youngberg with damage to the Youngberg and Russell vehicles. A second crash on US 169 south of Chanute involved Oliver Carl Atkins and Arthur A Eldred with damage to the Eldred car and the Atkins truck. Undersheriff John Phelps Police Chief Tom Morehead and Patrolman Chet Hale led the inquiries.
Mrs. Clarence Duntz wife of a former Hays police chief was critically burned yesterday when an explosion and ensuing fire destroyed her home in Hays. Fire chief Vince Riley said natural gas likely caused the blast in the basement. Neighbors Joseph Pellse and KH H Pierce rushed inside to help and she was rolled on a bed to quench flames. Hospital authorities reported second degree burns over her entire body. The husband works as an agent for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
