Bailey to Seek Parole on Feb 23 From State Prison

George Bailey, serving 10 to 20 years for second degree burglary and grand larceny, will apply for parole on February 23, 1956. The sentence stems from a Neosho County case heard at Erie after a December 15, 1948 guilty plea for theft of household goods from a Chanute rural home. Bailey’s parole request comes from the Kansas Penitentiary at Lansing.

Four Boys Die In Durant House Fire

Fire in a frame home in Durant Oklahoma killed four youths, three sons of Pat and Mrs. Womack Leon and a friend Hilton Berry. Mrs. Womack and a mother of three others were severely burned as the family battled the blaze after a 4 30 a m wood stove fire.

Fire causes heavy damage at Junction City church

A blaze at the First Baptist Church in Junction City last night caused an estimated 30 000 to 40 000 dollars in damage. Investigators believe the fire started in the attic though the cause is not yet determined. The church is described as one of the area’s largest.

Driver Unaware Wheels Missing From Dump Truck

Two Chanute Men Given Jail Sentences

In Thayer theft case two Chanute men faced jail terms. F M McGrail pleaded guilty to petty larceny and received up to a year in county jail after the charge was reduced from grand larceny for radiators valued under twenty dollars. Oscar Smith also pleaded guilty to petty larceny and got 90 days plus a 15 dollar fine and costs. Smith earned 26 days credit and may be eligible for parole once fines and costs are paid.

Twin Girls Unexpected On Shopping Tour

A sailor and his wife in San Diego welcomed twin daughters during a shopping trip near a hospital. Jack D. Pavia, a machinists mate first class aboard the Sperry, and Virginia Pavia were three blocks from the hospital when labor began. Both babies and mother were reported doing fine.
