A 14 year old Chanute boy was declared a miscreant child in juvenile court and ordered to an indefinite term at the Boys Industrial School Topeka. He will enter Shawnee Detention Home temporarily before Jan 17 as he awaits industrial school admission.
In Erie district court two suits seek damages. Mrs. Jackie Weaver of Iola sues Roy V. Ray of Chanute for 25000 dollars over a Sept 23 highway crash near Chanute involving three cars. A 10-year-old Yates Center girl, Vickie Burns, sues Dennis and Charles Cain of Los Angeles for damages from a Dec 19 1960 accident in Wasco California.
Twenty four adoptions have been made from the list of families and individuals for Christmas contributions, the Chamber of Commerce office said today. There are 59 listings in all, leaving 35 still needing help. Food and clothing are the major items sought. latest adopters include the Senior High School band Bit and Spur Saddle Club White Shrine and the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary.
Yates Center will switch to direct dialing at 1 01 a m next Sunday marking Southwestern Bell expansion. Electronic switching will replace operator dialing as MA prefix replaces old numbers and the 316 area code becomes standard for southeast calls. Local calls keep no area code. long distance dialing expands gradually.
Neosho Memorial Hospital has received one year accreditation from the Joint Commission after a Nov. 7 survey. The award recognizes high standards of patient care with proper facilities nursing staff and medical leadership. The hospital first sought accreditation in 1956 and many local officials praise staff and trustees for meeting requirements.
In Chanute a federal court ruled the government liable for two men, Kenneth E. Pens and James E. Cottrell, who drowned when their car veered into Keas Lake on a fishing trip in 1960. Pens left four children and two adults. Cottrell left two young children. Damages total about 50,000 dollars.
One person died and a passenger was critically injured in a one car crash on U S 56 west of Ellinwood. Driver Michael J. Neeland 21 of Great Bend was killed while passenger Nancy L. Muth 18 also of Great Bend suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. Cause under investigation as car rolled over.
Chanute and Stark post offices announce all day Saturday hours to handle Christmas mail. Chanute will stay open this Saturday and next. normal half day Saturdays return to noon closing after December 22. Stark office open 5 p.m. on December 15 and 22 to speed mailing.
No jury trials will be held in Neosho county district court this term for Chanute or Erie. All eight cases on the jury docket—three criminal and five civil—have been removed by settlement, continuance, or pleas. The last suit, Dwain Duccy v. Clark Cleaver, was dismissed yesterday at Erie.
The Commerce Department reports October personal income rose by 1.8 billion annually to a record 447.4 billion. Government workers' pay hikes drove much of the gain as overall growth slows since spring. From 1961 year end to last April incomes rose nearly 8 billion, with commodity sectors contributing 3.3 billion. In seven months, total income gained 9 billion while manufacturing wages fell 500 million. The October increase followed a 2.1 billion rise in September.

President Kennedy will appear on national networks Monday night to review his first two years in the White House. The hour-long program will be taped in advance and shown at 5 30 p m CST on ABC and CBS and at 7 30 p m on NBC. It is produced by a committee of the three networks and titled After Two Years a Conversation with the President. Kennedy will be interviewed by Sander Vanocur William H Lawrence and George Herman.
Sidney Olson was elected president of the Chanute Insurance Board for 1963 at a Tioga Hotel meeting at noon. He will succeed Robert Allen on January 1 and is joined by Boyd Burns as vice president Joe Wasser as secretary and Bruce Burrs as treasurer with David McCune remaining treasurer.
Gerald R. Hawkins aged 24 from Cedar Vale was killed in a single vehicle crash south of Chautauqua on K99. Two Cedar Vale occupants, Virgil Campbell and Walter Couch, were hospitalized at Sedan with Campbell in critical condition and Couch in serious condition.

Kansas traffic death log reports 24 hours ending 9 am Thursday with 2 fatalities for December 19 1962, compared to 19 for 1962 and 21 for 1961 in the same period.
About 10 700 residents received oral polio vaccine in the past week in Neosho County with 144 people vaccinated at the Neosho Memorial Hospital makeup clinic this morning. The three day makeup clinic pushed the total to 784 at the hospital and over 50 percent of county residents are now immunized. Most vaccines were given to Chanute residents. The Type I vaccine offers lifetime immunity and a six week follow up will cover Type II. Type III vaccine has been withdrawn from the market.
