Escape Attempt Fatal For St. Joseph Youth
George Sherman twenty from St. Joseph was killed when he tried to escape police during questioning about a Riverside burglary. Detective Ray Powell said Sherman knocked him down and ran, and Powell fired once. Sherman died later at a hospital. A coroner’s jury ruled the death accidental and in the line of duty. Powell has served on the force since 1922.

Two Injured In Head-On Collision Near Town
Mrs. Harold Weis and Robert Noblett were taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital after a two car head-on collision two miles north and west of town. Weis drove east into Noblett’s westbound vehicle on a narrow bridge around 1:15 PM. Noblett Sr. was the only passenger in the Noblett car, police said.
