In Chanute a call goes out from Mrs. Leonore Kounter of the Parsons State Training School for gifts for 450 children ages 6 to 21 who lack relatives to send Christmas presents. The public may contact the school PR department to arrange pickups.
A three vehicle collision north of town killed three people and injured four others. The dead were Bill Cooper 47 and Mrs. E S Merrill 65 both of Lincoln Nebraska and a woman identified as Mrs Gene Stevens mother of injured children. Merle 10 and Norman 14 were in serious condition in a local hospital and William Stevens 11 suffered severe head injuries. Airman Carlyle Gentry of Offutt Air Force Base Nebraska was also injured.
NATO ministers from 15 nations convene in Paris for a tense gathering focused on coordinating defense and finance. The talks follow the Hungary crisis and aim at better pre move consultation and possibly extending NATO interests to the Middle East as friction eases among Britain France and the United States.

Roy Spaur told police a robber entered his restaurant on U S 69 five miles south of Pittsburg and stole 269 dollars after asking for change for a fake 20. The bandit forced Spaur into the kitchen and fled with the money.

Searchers found George L. Laidler, 75, missing since yesterday while gathering walnuts. His body was discovered in tall grass about 200 yards from Charles Troxel’s farm home, three miles west of Pittsburg.
Max W. Bandy of Parsons is jailed in Erie County on second degree forgery and no fund check charges. He waived preliminary hearing and was bound over to district court with $1,500 bond, failed to post it, while serving a 15 day intoxication sentence at arrest.
The Agriculture Department rejected a request to designate parts of Missouri as a drought area eligible for emergency hay and feed program aid. A spokesman said Missouri’s conditions were not acute enough for federal assistance after a tour of southwestern and central Missouri by Harvey Dahl and other officials.
Wichita officials cleared a dispute over a 66 inch water pipeline northwest of the city. City manager Frank Backstrom said 11 Harvey County farmers dropped appeals and accepted city payments. Total awards amounted to 75 144 dollars to 19 landowners along the right of way.

Kansas Gov elect George Docking questions a Board of Social Welfare request to raise medical payments to doctors and hospitals for relief clients. He argues funds should go directly to relief clients, not to medical providers, as the federal match begins July 1 1957. The board will seek a formal hearing next Tuesday.
Eddie Jenkins fourteen was hurt in a motor bike car crash yesterday noon. He received multiple lacerations to head and face but is not seriously injured and was discharged from the hospital this morning. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Howard Jenkins of 107 South Allen and a ninth grade student at the Junior High School.
Harvey County's traffic toll rose to 12 yesterday with the deaths of a pedestrian and a motorist in separate accidents. Ward Spangler about 70 years old was killed by a car as he crossed U.S. 81 near his home six miles south of Newton. Vernon Unruh 24 of Burrton was injured fatally in his car which overturned near Burrton.
