Fewer than a third of original families remain on his route as some homes are vacant or gone. Road conditions have vastly improved since the county system.

Secretary of Commerce Sinclair Weeks announced that business capital spending in the first quarter of 1956 will reach a record level, about 12 percent above the already booming pace of 1955.

In Las Vegas Nevada farmer Paul Thomas tossed a concussion bomb into a gopher hole. The gopher pushed the bomb back out with a burning fuse. Thomas hurled it away as the device exploded igniting a hay pile. Firemen saved the house and barn but 12 tons of hay were destroyed. The gopher remains visible at the hole.
Unsteady forecast calls for generally fair and partly cloudy conditions tonight and Thursday with a low in the mid 20s and highs 40 to 45. Temperatures to rise in the southwest to 45 50 later. northeast expects 12 15 degree lows with up to 20s elsewhere. Snow remaining at Goodland and Hill City noted. readings at 12 30 p m show about 25.69 inches barometer and humidity around 24 percent.
Four children aged 3 to 11 died when a four room frame house burned like a flash in Kansas City. Parents Lawrence and Hazel Hazlett escaped with two other children as flames trapped Mrs Hazlett in a bathroom. Firemen blamed a heater placed too near a wall for the blaze.
Detective David E Kerr of the homicide bureau questions the boy's account of being chained to a tree and burned with turpentine by three youths. Earl Fryman, 17, suffered severe burns and was found near Fairview Hospital, detailing a hitchhiking incident toward St Ignatius School. Police note discrepancies, suggesting the youths may not exist as described.
Fourteen years after the Pearl Harbor attack the Navy dedicates a memorial on the sunken Arizona with an unveiling on Ford Island. Three thousand three hundred three service members perished, including 3,077 Navy personnel. 1,102 are entombed in the Arizona.

Retail council announces Thursday evening shopping to aid Christmas shoppers with Santa visits on Main Street between 4 and 9 p.m. He returns Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Additional Santa appearances planned Thursday December 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. Stores stay open that evening and will remain open evenings from December 19 through December 23.
Work will begin soon on an observation tower for the Ground Observer Corps post at Lyons. The project aims to support aerial surveillance and civic defense efforts in the region.

In Casper, Wyoming, a woman's skeleton was unearthed from a concrete tomb in her husband and his former wife Rose Alexander's home. Rose confessed she buried Barbara Alexander in the basement after an accidental fall with bricks. Barbara vanished in 1953. no charges were filed.
Gavin's Point Dam on the upper Missouri River is partially opened to boost flow during a low river stage. Army Engineers report 9,600 cubic feet per second released above normal winter flow and say other Dakotas dams may increase discharge if needed. An ice jam near Blair, Nebraska, caused the low stage but has largely dissipated.
A Wichita housewife Mrs. Lindie Lou Burling aged about 22 was killed yesterday when her car collided with a train northeast of the city. Police said the accident occurred near the railroad crossing as Burling attempted to cross. The victim was a 1-year-old wife.
