Erie reports the Neosho County Fair opened with 60 sheep 100 dairy cattle and some beef cattle entered. 4 H entries total about 200 clothing items and 18 freehand art pieces. Judging starts today with evening shade events and a livestock parade planned for Saturday. The 4 H Style Revue is Sunday at Erie High School and the fat livestock sale Monday at the fairgrounds is anticipated to be strong.

Wage Accord Ends United Mechanics Strike Threat
An average 18 cent an hour wage rise halted a planned strike by about 8,000 United Airlines mechanics and ground staff. The National Mediation Board announced the settlement, disclosed by United and the International Association of Machinists, ending a dispute over a proposed 27 cent hike. Secret Service Man Escapes Serious Injuries
SAN FRANCISCO Harvey Henderson a Secret Service agent guarding the President came within an ace of serious injury last night. He fell from the running board of a follow up car beside Eisenhower’s limousine as a motorcycle narrowly missed him. His knees were cut and bruised and his trousers torn. Colleagues pulled him aboard and he received first aid. He was reported not seriously hurt.

Blast at Piedmont Kills Ranch Hand
