Late entries swelled lines to about 60 at the Neosho County Fair in Erie delaying 11 am closing. Most delays came from 4-H clothing entries as Gale Mullen noted big crops and a promising corn show. Exhibits run at the American Legion Hall until 8 pm tonight and about 10 pm tomorrow, with removal by noon Sunday.

Purse Found After Theft At Calvert Store
A purse stolen from Calvert department store was found abandoned in a restroom a block away with part of its contents in the toilet flush box. Police report the owner Mrs. George R. Shepler of 517 West Elm said the purse held between 18 and 20 dollars. other items were recovered. Shepler had left the bag under a counter before work and noticed the loss at noon.

Three Men Charged In Twin City Bank Robbery
The FBI charged three men in the $12,100 Twin City State Bank holdup in Kansas City Kansas. Fred Charles Riley age 47 an escapee from Missouri Penitentiary, William Reece Johnston 38 released from prison in April, and Lyle Richard Johnson 34 a truck driver with no police record face federal bank robbery charges. Identifications came from bank officials and a passerby.

Wage increases and improved fringe benefits were implemented at Ash Grove Lime and Portland Cement Co. in the city and Monarch Cement Co. at Humboldt under new union contracts. Fire Destroys Barn and Hay at McMinimy Farm Loss $15,000
Five people believe spontaneous combustion or faulty wiring started a barn fire at the Ralph McMinimy farm on highway K39 near the Neosho Wilson County line. The blaze destroyed the barn and 75 tons of hay, with the structure insured but its contents not. Laurel Yarnell alerted the residents at about midnight as embers threatened the house. Chanute firemen responded and stayed until 4:30 a.m.

Sun Pictures From Giant Balloon Over Minnesota
Pictures of the sun expected to be three times sharper than any before taken will be snapped by a telescope camera suspended from a giant balloon over Minnesota within the next month. The Navy project Stratoscope began yesterday with a balloon carrying a dummy telescope camera to 83 100 feet to test aiming gear.

K39 Highway Appraisals Set
Appraisals totaling 9721.20 were set yesterday for rights of way easements and damages on the relocation route of highway K39 from Chanute to the Wilson County line a distance of 342 miles. A three man commission met with property owners and State Highway Commission representatives in the district court offices here. Property owners may appeal within 30 days. TIMMINS Ontario rescuers found the body of 15 year old Ronnie Blakemore wedged in a debris mass part way down a 1400 foot mine shaft. The shaft held 30 feet of water and had a second teen, 16-year-old Bonar Scholes, rescued last night.

Prank Ends Fatally For 14-Year-Old In Coffeyville
In Coffeyville Kansas a 14 year old named Rex Reese was killed by a shotgun discharge during a prank at an abandoned farmhouse seven miles northeast of the city. Sheriff Floyd Huggins called it a deadly practical joke that backfired. Six youths were questioned and no charges filed yet. Dr. Robert Wood said an inquest is set for September 3 in Coffeyville. Reese was the stepson of F B Kirkendall of Coffeyville.

Fifteen Rescued From Tunnel In Pittsburgh Sewage Project
Fifteen men trapped nearly three hours in an underground sewage tunnel were rescued with no injuries. A locomotive fire started the blockage and loose rock fell from the tunnel roof, but the workers remain employed on the sanitation authority project. The blaze began about 8 a.m. and the tunnel section runs parallel to the Allegheny River.
