Fire Destroys Farm Home Near Chanute
A two story farm home of Mr and Mrs F E Hayworth five miles east and one half mile north of Chanute was leveled by fire Sunday evening. Fire chief C W Brennan said a part of the home was insured. Neighbors and a bucket brigade helped save furniture and belongings but three water lines were not enough to save the dwelling. The fire was reported at 6 38 p m and the crew returned at 8 40 p m. The HAYWORTHS were in a field when their dog alerted them to the blaze. Defective wiring is suspected as the cause. Hayworth works part time for Manley Transfer Co.

Driver Is Arrested After Traffic Mishap
Walter Everett Bright, 73, of Thayer, was arrested Saturday afternoon on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after his car backed from a parking spot and collided with a southbound car driven by Charles Wolfe on North Evergreen in the business district. Bright was released after posting a $125 bond. The Wolfe car sustained damage to the left rear and rear bumper.

Mrs Pralles Parents Die in Auto Crash Near Gallup
Friends report Dr Theodore Stelzer and Mrs Stelzer of Seward Nebraska were killed August 11 when their car collided near Gallup New Mexico. Rev Frederick H Pralle left Chanute to take a River Forest Illinois post earlier this month. Mrs Stelzer’s funeral was set for Seward.
