President Nixon sends an eight branch tax reform package to Congress including a 50 percent cut in the 10 percent surcharge within a year, removal of 2.2 million low income families from the tax, repeal of the 7 percent investment tax credit, and a plan to tax avoiders through a new minimum tax while reviewing the entire system. A 59 year old Burden woman Mae Harris was killed after two masked men robbed the couple in their home around midnight. George Harris 64 said the men demanded money from the billfold. he drove them eight miles north before reporting to police as roadblocks were set in Kansas and Oklahoma.
