Fire siren false alarm disturbs Iola residents at night

Iola residents awoke to repeated fire sirens driven by a telephone line short in the city system. Fire Chief Chard said the false alarm began with an electrical fault and the sirens were silenced after the master switch was pulled. Police and fire crews fielded numerous calls during and after the event.
