Show of Industries Starts Here Monday
An industrial show featuring local manufacturers will open Monday at the Central Park community building under the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce. Sixteen exhibitors participate as the second annual show runs through the week with tours for Unified 413 students and visitor hours in the evenings. The Alcorn plant open house Tuesday will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with guided tours. The plant began in 1966 and now employs 200. The chamber dinner is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple with Beech Aircraft’s Cliff Titus as speaker.

Fire Loss For March In Cha nute Stands At 25
Estimated fire loss in Cha nute for March was 25 dollars as Chief John Erickson reported. For the first quarter the loss totals 3930 dollars, compared with 700 for the same period last year. The department answered 63 alarms in three months, down from 72 last year, with 26 runs in March including six to Tioga township, two to Danville township, and one to Big Creek township. Henry Brinkman died in a Tioga township fire. March calls included grass fires, carbon monoxide tests, car and house fires, oil washes, silo fires, a gas leak, refrigerator malfunction, and cats under a porch.

Bandits Take $10,000 From Hulbert Bank
Two armed men robbed the First State Bank of Hulbert, Oklahoma, of about $10,000 and fled by car to the south. Police later saw a vehicle believed to be the escape car on a gravel road near Melvin, a small community south of Hulbert. Hulbert lies about 10 miles northeast of Muskogee in east central Oklahoma.

Burke Named New City Fireman After Puckett Departure
James Burke of 601 N Washington is appointed city fireman replacing Don Puckett who leaves for a Civil Service maintenance job with the Federal Aviation Agency. Burke, a discharged Army veteran and husband and father of three, will begin Saturday with an Indiana assignment to start. Puckett ends his fire shifts today after joining the department in November 1961.

Barn Damaged in Copper Wire Theft near Chanute
A barn northeast of Chanute owned by Wes Brinkmeyer suffered extensive damage in a copper wire theft last week. Sheriff George Neely reported a vehicle was attached to the wire near lightning rods on the roof to pull it down, causing the ridge roll to peel back and 30 feet of wire to be cut off after the attempt failed.

Careless Driving Charged After Collision On Evergreen
Police cited Harvey Typer 17 of 1718 S Evergreen on careless driving and defective brakes after his car struck the rear of Dorothea Dannenberg 17 of 1201 N Garfield in traffic on Evergreen between Main and 1st yesterday noon. Typer posted a $25 bond. Typer’s 1953 Ford collided with Dannenberg’s 1960 Buick, damaging both cars as they were northbound.

Man Shot Killed by Estranged Wife in Wichita
