Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists reveal Inertial Guidance a self contained navigation system that operates without magnetic compass radio radar or external signals. Land judging school selects team for district contest

Five Youths Die When Car Plunges Into Missouri River
A car careened down a steep hill near Glasgow Missouri into the Missouri River killing five of six occupants. Victims named were William Conrow 23 John Lewis Stearns 15 Jerry Orton 16 Roy Frank Estill 19 and Glenn T Hopper 21 all of Fayette or Glasgow. Buddy Pete Kirby 16 of Fayette escaped with a broken leg. The crash occurred about 8 30 to 9 p m on State Highway 240 as the car crossed Main Street and landed offshore. Orton was recovered this morning and Conraw Estill Stearns Hopper died at the scene. Kirby was treated at Lee Hospital in Fayette. The hill leads to Glasgow s bridge over the river.
